Product Takeovers & Integration
Inherit, stabilise, and evolve products others have left behind.
Inherit, stabilise, and move a product forward
Products get orphaned — a vendor relationship ends, a founding team leaves, an acquisition lands software nobody fully understands. A takeover is the disciplined process of assuming ownership of an existing codebase and team, stopping the bleeding, and getting back to forward motion.
How we de-risk it
- Diligence first. Architecture, dependencies, security posture, and — critically — where the undocumented knowledge actually lives.
- Stabilise. Close the urgent gaps, establish a reliable release process, and remove single points of failure (often a single person).
- Evolve. Only once it’s stable do we invest in the roadmap — with a team that now genuinely owns the product.
Common triggers
Post-acquisition integration, a failing or exiting vendor, or an internal product whose original team has dispersed. Frequently paired with a Budget Audit & Control when the inherited spend is unclear.
The outcome
A product that’s understood, maintainable, and moving again — with a team that can carry it forward, not just keep the lights on.
